Register for Christy’s Catch walk and mtb ride now!

The lower than usual low tide, a good weather forcast and the fact that 21 March is a public holiday are all good excuses to join the annual Christy’s Catch Crab Walk and MTB Ride.  Sponsor Mark Christy insisted on the shorter distance of 15km for the main event as family participation is what he wants to see.

Human Rights Day will be celebrated with the 15km walk and fun MTB ride all along the beach from Walskipper to Christy’s Catch where the Kromme River will be crossed with two barges.  More serious mountainbikers can participate in a circle 30km or 50km ride starting and finishing at Christy’s Catch.

Registration for the 15km events will take place at the Walskipper in Aston Bay from 07:00, and the event will start at 08:00.  Participants can either cross the Seekoei River or just walk or ride a short detour and use the bridge over the river.  After crossing the Kromme River with a barge, walkers and cyclists have another 3km to go to St Francis Bay’s main beach, and then a short stretch to Christy’s Catch.

Runners are also welcome to enjoy this event as part of their training, however it is not a marathon.

Mountainbikers will register at Christy’s Catch for the 30km and 50km MTB Ride between 06:30 and 07:15.  The event will start at 07:30.  The 30km route participants will follow a safety car to the Paradise Beach turn off. Cyclists will then follow markers and marshals to the Walskipper from where the beach is the route to the finish line, same as the 15km route.  The 50km cyclists will turn left at the Oyster Bay road turn off, and continue to the t-junction with the Humansdorp Road.  There they will turn right and proceed to the Grassmere/Gutche farm turn off, turn right and proceed to the R330.  They will have a very short distance on the R330 till the Paradise Road turn off, from where they follow the 30km route.

All walkers and riders will get off the beach at the life savers hut on main beach.  From there they will continue into St Francis Drive and Christy’s Catch, the finish line where bikes can be cleaned immediately!  Each finisher will receive a bottle of Glaceau Vitamin Water.

The entry fee for all events is R60 for adults and R40 for all under 17’s.  The first 100 entrants will receive t-shirts.

You can enter online on St Francis Sport.  For more information, contact Esti on 073 825 0835 or email
