New owners for Porthole Restaurant
One of the oldest restaurants at Port St Francis, the Porthole Restaurant, has new owners. Welcome to Juan Schmidt and Candice Askhurst, who took over during April.
Juan and Candice have spend many holidays in St Francis, and fell in love with Port St Francis. “We are getting married in September, and booked the Skiboat Club for the reception way before we even knew this would become our new working destination,” Juan said. “We just love the vibe and atmosphere at the Port.”
At first the two thought it will be so quiet that they can close the doors for a few weeks to do much needed maintenance but “we have just been constantly busy and don’t want to disappoint anybody, so decided that’s a bad idea!” Although they are making a few changes to the decor, the doors are kept open for regulars and new guests.”
“We also decided not to change anything on the menu, other than serving bigger portions at the same price.”
Juan has already become involved in the community by sponsoring prizes for the first leg of the monthly MTB Night Ride, held at Port St Francis. And it is also not all work and no play for Candice, who is already a volunteer at Penguins Eastern Cape. “I have always wanted to just touch a penguin, and was very happy to learn that I can become a volunteer and be involved with the rehabilitation work in Cape St Francis,” she said. “Now I know they bite too!”
All of the best with your new business venture, and may you be very happy in St Francis!
