St Francis College celebrates nine years

St Francis College celebrated its ninth birthday on Friday 8 June with an Open Day, looking back over nine years of substantial growth and prosperity.  The College opened its doors in 2004 with only two Grade 0 learners, Jeff Brooker and Chrystal Hulett, with Eva Smith as their first teacher.

Eva is the longest standing staff member and taught the two in the original farmhouse, where she still teaches Grade 0 – this year a total of 13.  Today the College has 150 learners between Grade 000 and 7.  The College also gained a head master, Alan Campbell and has 10 full time teachers.

Samara Howell shared her birthday with the College, and had the honour to blow out the candels on the huge cake.

Lew Slade was the guest speaker and gave a riveting talk on setting priorities.  The children sang beautifully and were treated to a slice of the enormous birthday cake while the parents enjoyed tea in the new library.

The College expanded from the original farmhouse including a hall, computer room and library.
